This is a smooth-sided 51-gal RDS aluminum tank designed for the pickup bed. It has the fill cap/neck, the coolant to/from ports and the fuel to/from ports all on one side for convenience. The fuel guage sender is installed in the middle/center. The tank has three mounting tabs and a drain plug. The sale includes the fuel level guage and mounting pod.
Looks like that tank could be set either way to allow the filler neck and hose connections to be on the drivers side or passenger side. I need one with passenger side connections. When i put my stacks in, I don't want my hoses running behind the tank like they are now getting hot on the exhaust in the bed.
Yes, that's correct Clay. The only disadvantage to having the in/out ports & filler on the passenger side is the mounting tab where you bolt it into the bed would be inbetween the tank & the cab. However, it wouldn't take much to weld on a new mounting tab if that spot was inaccessible with the stacks.
I think a smaller, smooth tank like this one would offer an advantage in that setup, though, because you can cover the lower stack pipes AND the tank with an over-the-top bedbox (I've seen the top boxes at Tractor Supply, etc.) for stealth and to keep debris out of the stacks & tank and cab. Since this design of tank is smaller (and I've seen even smaller ones on various websites and blogs -- 30-gal and 40-gal, etc.), you going from your current 90-gal setup to something like this doesn't have you sacrificing any more bed space than you already are.
I also read your idea on using a HotFox in the summer & the standard RDS plumbing in the winter. Seems like one of these type of smooth tanks (like this one or perhaps even a smaller one) could easily accomodate a HotFox on the pickup side. You could set up a valve ahead of where the coolant enters either set of ports to switch between the two tank heaters.
You've touched on a question there that I have myself about the RDS tanks and whether or not they are overkill in terms of heating the VO. When I get my Excursion tank planned/modified/installed, this is something I wanted to address myself.
Thanks for the offer you made me on the tank but i am going to go with the 60 gal. toolbox/tank combo i think. If i change my mind before i order, i'll let you know. That was a very fair price though.
Hey muns, i have a buddy who is interested. I'll send him this link - actually hes a member on powerstroke.org so i'll send him that link to your add and he can contact you there.
My buddy wanted a larger tank. He found one that was 100 gal on craigslist
Ok thanks. I was just eye balling it, thinking it'd make a great "secondary" tank for long trips. Something I could temporarily mount in the bed (in conjunction with my B&W turnover ball hitch somehow) when traveling and then pull out when I was staying around the house.
If the price was right, I think it'd work pretty good.
Muns, is it still available?
Thanks!

Hey Clay, I don't know if Muns gets on here that often, so if you have another means of contacting him (email, etc), drop him a line and ask him to check the thread if you don't mind.
I didn't know if you guys had been talking prices via email or on here. Figured I'd ask just in case.
Thanks!
