  • The day of the turkey!

    Fried turkeys that is.
I'm thinkin there will be many gallons of used oil disposed of from individules frying there holliday birds...i'm thinking about putting an add in craigslist for used turkey fry oil disposal. If i can score a few local responses, it could be worth it...granted it could be a waste of time if i have to drive to far to only pick u up a small amount but i'm thinking maybe some churches, food banks, etc. may have larger quantities.
    What do yall think?

Thats an interesting idea. Not sure if it would pay off or not. I have heard several people mention that they aren't frying turkeys because of the cost of the oil. Let me know how it works out if you decide to do it.

I'll probably be picking up 6 gallons tomorrow from the T-day dinner at the in-laws. Now that you guys have mentioned it, I should have asked around for other folks that might be using some.

Saw a guy last night coming out of Walmart that had to 3 gallon cubes of oil...should have gave him my name and number...

well i figure if i can make a 50 mile loop around the area and pickup even 10 cubies, it was worth the trouble...that might be a bit optomistic on my part though...

I fried mine in a little over an hour... and it was delicious. 2- 20lb birds and a whole lotta other food. We had almost 30 people at my house for the big day.

It looks clean enough to just run in the truck. Bad idea?

I'm sending out an e-mail when I get to work to do an oil collection... we'll see what happens.

                haha.

I'm stockpiling all of my dirty oil... I still have plenty of clean stuff to go around. It'll all be filtered before it goes in the truck.

                What an awesome turkey though

Clay beat me to this post. I started tellling everyone at work about collecting their used vegi oil after Thanksgiving and Christmas. I get 3 emails yesterday from people that brought me their oil. I got a total of 18 gallons and it looks almost like new oil. So today I am going to remind everone to bring me their oil and see how much I get. I think I will post reminders on the bullitin boards at work before and after Christmas. I consider it a public service otherwise it could go into the ditch or down the drain.

Just sent the blanket e-mail to my dept, about 100 people. Hopefully at least 5 of them fried a turkey. That'd be an easy 25 gallons...

I have 5 coming in today and then some random oil jugs tomorrow from someone who made french fries. hehe
