  • water test: with spoon & torch

    Hey guys,

I am using the spoon & torch test....I can get it to smoke with 1 or 2 bubbles (maybe), no cracking at all....Is this water-free enough for my vegistroke?

It was for my MERC 300D. IP in my 7.3 would costs a bit more......

    Thanks for any help....

If this is with a teaspoon, I would aim for less water.

      Elvia,

Sorry for not clarifying my tools...it is a large laddle type spoon, probably testing 3 teaspoons full of oil in the test....

        Jed,
IMO 3 tablespoons is not a representative sample. I use an electric skillet, get it up to 350 then pour in about 2 1/2 cups to fill the bottom of the skillet.

That's a lot of oil for a test...I could be wrong, but I think the Frybrid site calls out a few tablespoons. Can't remember.

I usually go with three or four tablespoons worth.

Might have to take another look at the Frybrid site though.

I guess I knew that, just use to using IP when refering to my 5cyl engine.

Anyhow, Lets say I'm testing 3 teaspoons of oil, covering a 3-4 square inch large spoon, would 2 or 3 small bubbles be exceptable? Ive herd many theories suchas 2 or 3 bubbles per Square inch, and that the oil is good if there is no crack in hte time it takes to smoke regardless of the number of bubbles!?!?.....I' really worried about too much water.

That sound acceptable to me...how big were the bubbles?

The bubbles are really small.....I may be over thinking this....I guess that better than under thinking it.

                        Thanks for the input.

                            Reference to post #1

He stated Mercedes IP=Injector Pump was less expensive then PSD,99+ PSD 7.3,6.0,6.4's don't have a injector pump to break. In these applications the Oil is pressurized, and ideally the oil has a pump not the injectors. This was why no-one did a sucessfully kit until jason, you had to get around not having an Injector Pump to turn pressure up on.HEUI is a set pressure, non adjustable.
