  • Marinco mod

Picture pretty self explanatory. Bought 'marinco' receptacle at Bass Pro Shops for $15, drill 1 7/8" hole in bumper, install. Looks like this:

Now I can plug/unplug block heater one-handed! I put a female plug on the back of rec., so I didn't cut the block heater cord. We have one for the Excursion as well - it will mount in the stock bumper, pics to come...

    Alot cheaper then $200

Last winter it snowed, wife didn't see cord,my wallet $200 lighter.I have that on my list.I need to rig it so it unplugs in above scenario.I plan on doing this soon, but want a waterproof closure as I have inlaws that live up in the hills, and that mud is deep come spring.....Also sourcing power inverter for 3500 watts with same style enclosure(graphics Biz requires off grid power for onsite installs.........greasy
2000 7.3X V3 So much fun,so little time,Support small Oil,burn WVO,Free and greasy down the road I go!!!!!!!!!!completely self sufficient and proud of it. (Wood furnace.....X.......solar pontoon....solarsheat twins this summer.....I don't Know much.......I'm just a hillbilly with too many guns..............

I've been unplugging mine with no hands... just stomp on the cord. lol.

That is a really clean look though. I've been waiting for a Bass Pro for about 4 years here in Buffalo.

I do that... I am still trying to master the technique of drop kicking it to get it plugged back though

Just an update on this mod. The cap still seals nicely and even driving thru snow, rain and MUD - nothing has gotten inside receptacle! (when cap was closed) Still looks new in there... Check Grainger for 'flanged' receptacles and select the male or female 'weatherproof' version ya need! These (like I got) are kinda nice 'cause plastic don't RUST.

I would really like to see how you did the one on the Ex. If you get a pic you should post it up in the Ex forum.

Will do, as soon as I install it!! She never bothers to plug it in, even on COOOLD am's it just takes 5 min's of hi-idle (1100 rpm - via DP-Tuner) and they have warm air by end of driveway and switch over in 2-3 miles... I think it'll go in plastic area on drivers-side lower bumper. I've seen them in a few places though, search marinco on FTE, TDS, psd.org, etc. for variety of pics! This is a pretty common 'mod'.
