  • In the market for an X. Got a few ?'s

Look's like I got the wife interested in a 4X4 X. We'll be looking at a 2000 Limited with 150,000 mi. tomorrow. It's owned by a gas station Owners wife. They're asking 10g's for it. Anything I should be looking out for that my Crew Cab doesn't have?

nah.. just take it up to hwy speeds and see if it has any bad shake. also get on the brakes a little and see if they shake. That'll turn into 1000 bux real fast.

Other than that get the VIN and post up on one of the ford truck sites to see repair history.

I will likely be getting another X too, 6.0l

Good luck and seems like a decent deal.

btw how does one put 150k mi on a truck in HI?

        Thanks Wilson & GreasyX!

Seems like it's similar to my Crew Cab. I'll keep those points in mind when I take a look at it.

The owners wife drives it daily from Kau to Kona which is about a 100mi round trip. Since they own a Service Station, I assume that the maintanance is up to date. I'm planning to look it over carefully. Can't ASS-U-ME too much now days!!

If the deal goes through, I know I'll be ordering a V3 minutes after delivery!!!

          spooky meeting!

Went to town today to do some errands. Left a message to see if the X was going to be in town so I could get a look at it. About an hour later I get a call from the owner that the X is in town and that I should call his wife on her cell. I take the number down after parking my truck at McDonalds. I wanted to get a quick lunch before I called her. I get out and stand in line. Out of the corner of my eye I see the X drive up to the drive thru lane. I walk up to her and this lady was in shock that I knew her name. I explained what had just transpired, and we both had a good laugh. She decided to eat her lunch inside, and let me test drive the X.

          Now for the report.

On the whole the X is stock.

I stand corrected on the odometer. It has 186,xxx miles.

The engine and transmission ran smooth and shifted on spot (Better than my truck). I forgot how slow an un-chipped 7.3 is.

265/75/R16E tires all around that look fairly new.

No leaks under the eng/trans. Oil up to level. Trans fluid red and did not smell burnt.
The interrior showed it's age. It's missing the third row seat (It was taken out and later stolen. It's claimed with her insurance and will be replaced)

When I braked I felt a clunk (Best I can describe). Not sure where it was coming from. It did stop as well as my truck.

The front end felt tight when going over bumps.

The AC was switching to/from the Defroster to the vents. Not really cold. Anyone know what causes this?

Paint was showing it's age (Black/Gold). One dent that could be massaged out.

I left a message for the Mr. so I could ask him more questions. Anything else you guy's can think of

          Thanks for you help!

              I think you're right greasyx.
I think I can repair it with rental tools and a 12pk.
The engine/tranny was pretty smooth. I called a friend about the AC and he thinks it's a vacuum leak.

The owner hasn't called me back yet. Not many people here can afford $5.21 a gallon diesel.

KBB has good as $9800.00 and fair at $8800.00. I may be able to get him to lower his price.

I still need to add 4g's for the v3.

I think I'll take the weekend to think about it.

HMMMMM......... But then again, It'll pay for itself!!!

My neighbors will freak if they see two Diesels in my driveway.
