  • Nature is awesome

These amazing pictures show how cruel nature can sometimes be as a grey heron snacks on a rabbit.

Herons mainly eat fish but will also take birds and small mammals. This one was searching for a meal when it spotted the baby rabbit emerging from a hole.

Swooping down it grabbed its prey by the ears, took it to water and drowned it - then swallowed the rabbit whole.

      Awesome shots John
Its not really cruel if you look at it as survival. Its part of the food chain.

          Good eye Wilson.

Why are the rabbit's feet in the air when its head goes under the water? The Heron never lets go of its head... so there was no reason for the body to be adjusted.

Not that I don't believe it... just doesn't look right.

Could happen,When i lived in FLA a gator ate a golden retriever, bad for dog but good for the 3 yr old girl it was protecting.I did seawalls on the gulf coast and saw alot of stuff in person that if I didn't see first hand would have thought fake.I once saw a 6 foot dogfish(small shark) eat a pelican 50lbs.

I took a really good look at it in PS and found absolutely nothing to substantiate your claim of chop work. Gonna have to give more evidence than just a single claim to convince me.

none of the pics look real...the first 2 look like the birds beak is stuck inside the ear, not holding it by the outside...did it "spear" the rabbit in the head?
Now look at pic 2 and 4...that bird has a pretty long beak...where is it in pic 4??? should be visible on the left side of the bunnys head.
And the last pic, that bunny is pretty big compared to the lump size in the birds neck...i think it would be buldging a bit more.
And the bunny doing a head stand in the water looks a bit odd.

I would suspect the water having more ripples when the bunny is under water.
