  • leaving a memo with potential suppliers works

Last summer/fall I went searching for numerous WVO suppliers. I found a few great ones, and have been above my usage volumes, so I haven't been spending much time trying to find additional sources. I guess you could say I was just waiting for one to fall into my lap. Well, that happened this morning.

When talking to potential suppliers, I always leave a memo explaining what I'm proposing, explaining my methods of collection, and what I'll be doing with the oil after I collect it (most people think it's great). At the end I leave my email address and cell number in case they want to ponder on it for a while. Well, apparently this place about 2 miles from my work had a customer that already collected their oil, but he hadn't been showing up so the owner dug out my old memo and called me this morning. He had 12 cubies sitting behind the building, and he said he goes through 4 cubies a week and I can have them if I can make it there on a weekly basis.
I think I'll be set now, as this almost doubles my previous weekly collection

Guess I don't have to build that sucker tank just yet

that sounds great wondering if there is any chance of getting of copy of the memo that you use? I get about 8 sometimes 10 a week but go though it with the amount of miles I do. I can always use more.

    thanks

      here's mine:

This memo is to serve as a proposal for your company to potentially reduce its costs, and/or reduce harmful environmental effects, in the disposal of used vegetable oil. If your company currently has to pay to have the used cooking oil disposed of, I can help reduce these costs by collecting the oil myself for no charge.
You may be asking yourself why I would like to obtain your used vegetable oil. As fuel prices have been increasing over the last few years, people started looking into non-conventional fuel sources. Used vegetable oil can be put through a filtration system and then burned in a conventional diesel engine. The vehicle requires significant modification to do so, but the reduced cost of diesel makes it worth it.
Another advantage for this conversion is that diesel vehicles running on vegetable oil have greatly reduced emissions. One study has shown a 26% reduction in Carbon Monoxide and a 39% reduction in particulate matter when running on vegetable oil. Feel free to visit www.dinofuelalternatives.com for more information.
My plan is to obtain the oil in a manner as to not disturb the business operations, and to do so as cleanly professionally as possible. I can source my own collection containers for your company to dump the used oil in directly. 5 gallon buckets are an easy way to collect and transport the used oil. If you currently pour it back in the original containers for disposal, I can take those as well.
I would like the opportunity to work with your company to help reduce your costs, help out the environment, and save myself a few bucks in the process. If you would be interested, please feel free to contact me for further discussion.
      Thank you for your time,

Drew- so what's the response like as far as the system is concerned when your off at the races? Is is being well received or people giving the typical "where do I get my oil" response? I'm just curious.

                    Hi James,
Most of them are the typical, "yeah, but where do you get your oil" guys, but I've got a couple guys very interested so far. I think they're still just wrestling with the initial cost, even though I've told them my kit paid for itself in less than a year.
I've just been to 1 race so far this season with it, so there will be plenty more opportunities to brag about showing up with the diesel gauge on FULL

Also, I'm still trying to land a writeup in Racepages Magazine on the V3. They cover the NMRA racing series, and have other Ford tech articles & info). Getting TO these tracks is one of the biggest expenses in most guys' racing programs (it used to be my biggest), so I can see that article being a big hit. Especially with the economy in the toilet, and racers still trying to find a way to get there.

If you guys have a banner, business cards, T-shirts (hint hint), I'd be more than willing to fly your colors in the pits.
