  • V3 on driver's-side!

I hope I'm not out of line, but I wanna put the V3 on drivers-side of my '00 Excursion. It just makes more sense to me. The tank is on that side, no competition for space w/exhaust, no crossing over driveline and exhaust, etc.

Anyway, I see the drain/vent hole on FASS will be facing wrong way (up), so I yank it apart to see how to flip the pump around. There is a locating dowel thru pump motor, center peice and V3.

I don't have the balls to drill even a shallow hole in my purty, new, shiny V3 without at least asking someone if there is a better way.

    HELP! What should I do?

Here it is mocked up for first time:

if it ain't broke don't fix it!!!

please take into account from my own experiance.A)front driveshaft. B)Weep hole behind filter.C)steering column.D) fuel and coolant lines, look at water pump in and out, belts in way for tying into cooling system.E)now think about taking the pump apart, that if not torqued correctly will not keep a prime, and most likely not index correctly, giving you a free undercoatingp.s. don't ditch that original pressure line(black with yellow fitting )as what i see in photo will not hold 65-75 [email protected] degrees. In not trying to be a jerk, but Jason is a genius and he knows his [email protected]#. oh ... and put that donaldson 555823 back on $13.75 well spent. welcome to the club kid!!!! you just made the best investment in your life.grease out...........

      tranny cross menber

PPS-excursion tranny mounts different then F series, you will need to drill a new hole,if you try to put on drivers side mounts will be on top(wrong side),and if you need to service(lost pressure etc)those ports would be behind mounting bracket {thats if there was a way to bolt up},this would vibrate and be noisy on frame. Depending on build date you may may get a code , this was talked about on old forum heres a refresher pcm wires need to be changed around a little ask jason if this occurs. this code is a ghost to tell the stealership you have/had a chip (see warranty infringment act)2007? don't worry if it happens there is nothing wrong with your(X).IF this doesn't occur forget about it,it happened to me trust me when i say your stomach does funny things you spend $20000 for a used vehilce and it throws a code,PPPS if this is airfooter talk to halitosis about install on X he helped me out of some issues with pcms etc knowledge is wealth,,,i'm just spreading it around...grease out

Thanx greasy, it is airfooter. Yeah, this ain't my first rodeo. I appreciate your concern. I really want the unit to go on drivers-side. Looks like I can drill the 'index dowel' a new hole on the pump side. Don't forget, this pump was not made for this application, although it has been fitted beautifully! I agree Jason IS a genious, from the original tinkering to this sweeeet work of art.

What is the procedure for re-installing the pump to V3?

Oh, the baldwin came on my unit.

          V3 pump re-install

4-08 i spoke with jason about re-indexing pump{sat cock-eyed on V-3 from shipping across country(HEY EARL,WHATZ IN THIS BOX..Shaky...shaky)he told me to tighten the bolts like like lug bolts,X pattern tighten until at old thread count remains( use masking tape to mark depth before taking pump off V3).and then another quarter turn.Make sure gasket is not damaged, "dry install pump".run system if pump drips make sure bolts are torqued the same if they are ,systematicly tight a little more.auto set-up should take care of any air if not manual purge.P.S. don"t lose the little pin between pump and V3 use a little filtered oil to tack gears of pump in place. Happy hauling airfooter ...grease out

With all due respect jason, why would you want to try and reinvent the wheel here?
This system is designed one way and you want to change something as trivial as swapping sides. The V3 was machined and parts layed out in it to be "right side up" and your going to flip it upside down? I'm not sure of all the ins and outs of what the effects would be of doing this but i just don't see it being a good thing.
Not sure here but you may be compromising your warranty if you do this.
