  • Chipped!

I just re-installed my Hypertech 3 chip and that has completely changed my truck. I pulled the chip out 9 months ago and haven't used it since the vegistroke install. My truck now has a giant set of balls.
Some folks seem to think chips and veg. don't mix. It also seems to put a bit more stress on the tranny, but I'll keep driving with it for now as my acceleration power has gone up 10x.

What the fark did I get myself into??????

You guys ever consider a DP Tuner? I don't know anyone who has stuck with one of the big names after going for a ride in a DP truck. I have 5 tunes on mine.

          Stock +
          60 tow
          80 econo
          120 race
          140 extreme/smoke

          I can roll with a stock tire'd 6.0 with a banks 6 gun when I'm on 40s.

            DP tuner

If this truck is a automatic,You will need to upgrade Torque Convertor for extra power. My friend Spotty over on the diesel stop just lost his tranny as a result of the added amounts of horsepowerRemember if you want to play....you have to pay(now or later you choose).Dp tuners are the best accessory for your POWERSTROKE,but for the sake of the $2000 replacement tranny, spend $400 on a Torque convertor that can handle it.Or do what Spotty is doing, throw a six speed in it........happy tuning...........grease out
2000 7.3X V3 So much fun,so little time,Support small Oil,burn WVO,Free and greasy down the road I go!!!!!!!!!!completely self sufficient and proud of it. (Wood furnace.....X.......solar pontoon....solarsheat twins this summer.....I don't Know much.......I'm just a hillbilly with too many guns..............

You will likely need more than just a converter to hold the stock tranny together for the long haul.
Why not wait till it gives up the ghost and then upgrade the entire thing?

                Driveline longevity

Clay,Do you think a valve body would help the tranny from imploding.Looking at the tunes he is using ,if it shifts accurately, wouldn't this scenerio extend the life of the slosh box.Personally if it spends much time above 80 econo, without at least pre-mentioned upgrades,I would be concerned with the life expectancy of that 6ohBut if Jack was wise enough to go with the Banks set-up,He's probably taken that into account.Just remember don't let your foot get heavier than you wallet...Grease out

I'm not tranny expert but anything you can do to the 4r100 will be an asset from what i have read.
I drive daily on my SCT Loony-Street tune...about to push 100k miles on the 6.0...lets hope it will last at least to 250k or beyond.

I got a 6spd in my F-350 'cause all the contractors I know were on their 2nd, 3rd or 4rth tranny in a late model PSD - almost all of these were STOCK trucks. They just drive'em hard and put'em away wet!

Now our 'new' Excursion is in your boat. I am just planning to drop in a BTS tranny and whatever TC he is recommending these days. This is a tranny that is 100% garunteed not to break - no matter WHAT you wanna do with it. That includes racing, sled pullin' and/or draggin' a 30k lb trailer up Vail Pass. It does cost about 4k though. (which is ALOT less than my friends' mentioned above have in their transmissions btw!)

Your FIRST upgrade should be a better trans cooler (I think the 6.0 cooler is best) and a trans temp gauge. Good Luck!!

2000 Excursion Limited 4x4. V3, AIS intake, BTS trans & tunes - 120k VO miles

RIP X & Toyhauler - you served us well.

I just received my 6.0 trans cooler for my 7.3. It is much bigger and it bolts right up to the 7.3. So what is this BTS tranny?

                            Bts

A BTS is the way to go. I love mine. You will not get any better customer service or a better quality product anywhere else. Their website is: www.brianstruckshop.com. They are located in North Central Arkansas (about 40 minutes south of Branson, MO)

Great product and great warranty. 2 yr no questions asked. They will cover all parts, labor and shipping. After 2 years, they cover parts and labor, but you pay shipping of the tranny to them.

I have about 35,000 miles on my BTS. It is great. A little costly, but gives you piece of mind that it will never break again.

If you have a 7.3, I suggest upgrading to the 6.0 cooler. My tranny temp doesn't get about 155-160 degrees pulling a 6,000 pound trailer in the heat of the summer.
2001 F-250 Lariet, BTS Transmission, Superchips programmer, 300,000 miles (vegistroked @ 95,000 miles). Proud to have the oldest original vegistroke kit (V1/V2 combination)
