  • Ever Have This Happen ???

I drove home tonight, 310+ miles, green light on all the way. I pull into my driveway and shut the truck off just long enough to unload it and then take my wife out for beer and pizza. The truck was off long enough to purge and shut down, maybe 5 minutes.

Hope back in and head out - no green light. The bar is 7 miles away, and even from a cold start the green light should have come on in that distance. We pull up to the back of the bar where the owner puts the cubies for me. I shut off the truck, load up the jugs and start it back up - green light comes on right away. When we left the light came on right after getting on the road. Anyone have that happen to them?

Never. Once its lit on a trip somewhere it usually takes quite a while for it to cool down enough for it to take long to turn on.

I have had a similar situation before. All I did was put it in manual for a few minutes and switched it back to automatic and everything was good. If it continues there is the possibility of a dead spot in your pump motor. Mine got to the point where I had to get out and tap the pump with a hammer (after I knew temps were good) and watch for the green light to turn on.

        VTVegiPower,
How did you finally fix the problem (replace pump)? - Patrick

It happened again today; pulled over and shut it off, started up and the green light came on. Huh?

            waytall,
How many miles on filter? Any possibility of loose wiring anywhere? Do you have a pressure gauge? Had a chance to tap on pump re VTVeg's suggestion? - Patrick

Filter is under 1k miles; I would think a loose wire would be a constant problem, meaning it wouldn't be cured by shutting the truck off and restarting; not to the fuel pressure gauge, but it is in the very near future; haven't had to tap on the unit yet as shutting off and restarting seems to be the quick fix.

Jason sent me a new pump the other day, but i haven't put it in yet as the pump has been working flawlessly for over a week. It is an interesting situation. If it happens again I would first get out and feel/listen to the pump and confirm that the pump isn't running even though light is out. If pump really isn't running you can do a couple tests with a multimeter if you have access/ability. Unplug the pump and see if there is 12volts to the pump plug on harness, if not there is a power issue. If there is check the ohms thru the plug on the pump; good pump should read 0.5-1.5 ohms (if memory serves me) and a pump with a dead spot will read open line (OL on my meter). If you get that Open reading leave your switch in auto and tap on the motor with a hammer and watch to see if the green light comes on (of course being confident that temps are hot enough for it to come on). I'll keep thinking about this, keep us posted on what happens

Maybe one of those screwy pressure senders?
