  • Custom SCT tunes for Vegi?

    I saw in another thread that Clay Henry has a custom tune written for vegi oil. What is the advantage to running this vs. a tune written for diesel? Lately I've been running DJ's aggressive tow as a daily driver and everything has been performing well but just like everyone else I'm always looking for something better!

      i would like to tell you how its working but my tuner is on the blink and SCT has to fix it before i can load my new vegi tune. Supposedly the injection timing is different with vegi and the tune will adjust that. My street performance tune runs great on diesel but on vegi, at wide open throttle, i can hear it missing a little like the timing if off a hair.

        Who did your vegi tune Clay? I run the Innovative aggressive street 24/7 except when I am towing and it seems to work well on both #2 and vegi. I have heard of vegi tunes before but not heard much feedback. Let us know when you get it running.

          That would make sense, as it seems most everyone tells me there is less "inherent energy" in VO than in diesel. In other words, I would think it's less volatile.

          And being less volatile would probably affect the point at which it ignites in the compression stroke of the cycle - either slightly more early or late in comparision to diesel.

          Let us know how that works for you once your SCT is back up to speed.

            Jody at DP-Tuner has written some tunes for VO and he can do conventional 'flip chips' and programmers (SCT). He was anxious to do some 'live tuning' for me on VO so he could write even more specific tunes (for everyone), but I have not had a chance to do it yet. Give him a call and pick his brain about it.

            I have 'regular' tunes in both 7.3 PSD's and they perform same (AWESOME) on VO as they do on D2. The Excursion is all stock except AIS intake and V3 system and I have hi-idle, 80economy and 100hp tunes for it. LOVE IT, LOVE IT , LOVE IT!!! Wife appears to like the 100hp tune, thats what I find it in most of the time.

            Once she gets a BTS trans, we will add some SERIOUS power to the old Excursion!! Ya know, big oil, BIG injectors, BB turbo, and 'competition' tunes. How about 'Mom Taxi' during the week and sled pullin' and 1/4 mile draggin' 9k lb hot rod SUV on the weekends??

              Note to self: Don't try to drag race the Excursion in the lane next to you if it happens to be Jason's wife...lol. I can just see some ricer kid getting dusted by this big old Excursion with a load of kids!

                Good luck with getting your SCT fixed and post some results when you get to try it out if you don't mind!
