  • Will this work?

Well I am here in Southeast Texas without oil for a while. I am here for work and my filteration and supplies are in CA.

Anyhow I was going to bypass the heat back to the engine leaving the V3 and tank without heat so I can fill it with diesel for now. Just wondering when the V3 has no heat but is in manual mode will it pump correctly? I just don't want to have a bunch of sticky goop after being without oil for the next few months.

I would think you would have to leave the heat on the V3, just bypass the tank. If the V3 does not heat up your v3 pump will not come on. I don't think it will hurt anything with the v3 heating up the diesel.

You are about 140 miles from me. How much oil will you need while in Texas? How long are you going to be here? I may be able to get you a tote of Clean oil.

I am moving to Texas, I am staying with a friend until I get a rental in the CS area. Moving the wife and kids out after the school year is finished. I could use 80 gallons a week right now.

                tacit k,
If you shut off the heat to the V3 and tank, I don't see any reason why you couldn't run diesel through the system. The veg pump on my 00 will come on as soon as I fire up as long as I have it in the manual mode even if the system is not up to temp (different story in the auto mode). I would suggest that you make sure there is no veg in the system if you are still experiencing cold weather when you start running diesel. Trying to run the pump with cold veg in the V3 and filter would put a strain on the pump and it may even cause the fuse to blow.

I would also suggest unplugging the filter heater. Although the heater doesn't come on in the manual mode until the system gets up to temp (which it never will if you shut off the heat), I would just feel better knowing it was disconnected. Also, if you were to select the auto mode for some reason, the filter heater would come on even with the system not up to temp.

If you don't get fixed up with some oil from Triple, seems like a good plan to run diesel through the system during a prolonged period of time not using veg. - Patrick

Just fill the VO tank with diesel.....and use it.

or just use the OEM tank for diesel.

IMHO, heating diesel or even strong diesel blends is not a good idea - especially in a system that heats the whole VO tank. I have a ball valve on the coolant supply for VO system. I also turn off the heat anytime I am not using VO so I don't 'cook' the VO left in tank and lines...

The extra range from using VO tank for diesel could be very useful, especially if you travel someplace with cheaper diesel!

That was the impression I was under. I've done that a number of times and never had any problems.

I guess I'll add that I have considered adding a by pass for the coolant loop in the tank as a summer project.

I've been trying to iron out my new install, With a New engine, So I've been running and heating #2, is this a concern ?

I didn't want to run WVO untill I got some miles on the new engine to be sure every thing is running smooth..

If you're heating the diesel in the vegi tank the flashpoint becomes a concern. Keep in mind though, gasoline's flashpoint is something like -45*F and diesel is over 170* I beleve... so you're basically making the diesel as dangerous as gasoline.

I just looked it up gasoline is -40* and diesel is 143*. I had no idea it was that low.
