  • New product idea for DFA

Since Jason hasn't posted it on here yet, I thought I'd be presumptuous and throw out an idea on the forum to see if other folks would also be into buying a piece of equipment he told me about on the phone...

Since the 7-wire tow plug on our SuperDutys includes a 12V power lead and a ground lead, he said you can wire up a trailer plug to run a 12V vegi-oil pump. So, we could use that plug to run a dumpster-diving 12V pump and/or a 12V clean fuel (ie: storage tank-to-vehicle tank) transfer pump. This would come in really handy for me, since I plan to do some cross-country trips in my Excursion and tow a trailer of filtered WVO barrels along behind me. The idea would be to pull into a rest stop; hook up the transfer pump to the plug; pump clean oil from a barrel on the trailer into the vehicle tank; and then move on out.

Sorry for the cross-post, but I found a picture of the schematic on the powerstroke.org forum here: http://www.powerstroke.org/forum/gen...ing-plugs.html. It's also right on the cover for the trailer plug recepticle on the back of our trucks.

Anyway, to wind back around to the original point, I bought one of the DFA 12V pumps when I ordered my Excursion 40-gal tank and I just picked up a trailer plug tonight for like $6 from Lowes. Once I get the pump I'll wire it up to the plug & be rocking and rolling. If DFA offered that as a wiring option with their 12V transfer pump, I would have just bought it from them.

Would anyone else do the same? (Just trying to rally support for another reason to buy a quality DFA product!)

FYI - I think it would be cool to have a new forum section devoted to "new DFA product ideas" because Jason said to me this was just one of many of his ideas they haven't "productized" yet... I know that (speaking for myself) us newbies love to hear about stuff like this from you experienced folk... and would gladly purchase a quality, tested product vs. reinventing the wheel.

    'nice weekend to all,
    Eric

Yep. Plan to do exactly that for my 12v pump. Plug and play. Even considered a little wireless remote that is for turning on neon, etc. (look in the 'ricer section' of chain auto parts store) I keep meaning to see what size fuse is on that circuit. fwiw, I ran the pump for 3 hrs on a deep cycle battery (thru a 10 amp fuse) and it never slowed down. This was pumping VO the consistency of brownie dough...

I usually push oil thru a fuel filter right before truck - no matter what else has been done to it. This pump will not 'push' through anything, but it should 'pull' thru anything airtight just fine.

If your worried about that...you could get an AIC (Aux Idle Controller) and hit the "charge protect" button before you run your pump.

I ran a winch on my trailer off my 550 like that for a long time.
The more power you draw...the higher it will idle your truck....

3 1000 CCA batteries? Thats pretty serious.... I just use a little riding lawn mower size battery for my lil 12v pump
