  • V3 gets me home

I am so happy I have my wonderful V3. I have been happy since it got up and running last April but after it getting me home the other night I am even happier.

I was about an hour from home. The truck had been out in -12 temps for about 8 hours and it started up kind of rough but really for that kind of temp did just fine. I had driven very slowly through town and gotten out on the highway and almost up to running temps when the diesel fuel system froze up on me AGAIN.

I pulled over to the side of the highway and it died. I took a chance and flipped the V3 switch to manual on and started it up. It ran a little rough for a couple of seconds then ran just fine all the way home. I switched it to automatic when I got in the garage and luckily the diesel system had gotten warm enough that it purged it's self just like normal.

Thanks guys for a great system.

That's great to hear Tanya...glad it got you to the house. So what was the temp around this time? I figure if it had been -12 all day, it must have been cold at that time.

I am guessing about -20 it had been -32 the night before. And today it was 32 it just amazes me a 60 degree difference.

That sounds like N. Alabama...20's one day...high 50s the next. Kind of gets old after a while.

We're all glad to hear that the system saved you a tow bill and that it got you and yours home safe!! But I am more concerned about why your OEM fuel system is dying intermittently, have you or have you had anyone take a look at the wiring of the diesel fuel pump? This sounds like a bad ground or a short somewhere.

I would think that if you are running a good anti-gel additive in the cold months you should not have that kind of problem. It gets pretty cold here lately and I have to store my ex outside. I use dieselkleen with the anti-gel in it and have had no real fuel issues. My battery doesn't like me very much though. I would try to find a good diesel mechanic in the area to give it a look. Maybe you could look and ask on the powerstroke boards for some answers.

The mechanics say it is just jelled fuel but Clay and Jason have had me checking the fuel pump pressure and that seems to be okay too. The mechanics now seem to think there may be moisture in my system some where but I have not taken it back in as I am not sure I feel like they are even compitant. I will check the fuel pump wiring though and see if something is happening there. Thanks

                Silly Question

Tanya did you empty the fuel bowl? This can be easilt over looked, and since you are using less #2 condensation could settle there. If you are not already familar with this procedure, take pretty powerstroke Plastic piece off fuel filter access, there will be a yellow(I believe they all are yellow)lever.Put bucket under truck, push down lever for a few seconds,or until you smell strong odor of #2,put back together.....this is forgotten often as you don't look at it every day under that plastic cover(I do this every 3000 miles to insure fuel quality. Also Any chance you are having CPS issues?Hope this helps............greasy
