  • 3000 Mile round trip complete!

Jersey to West Palm Beach Florida, Florida through Atlanta, on to Asheville North Carolina then back up I-81 to Jersey. 3 55 gallon drums full in the back of the X, and 30 underneath. The V3 ran for 18 hours straight through on the way down. I love this truck now! Thank you DFA!

Wow Russell, that's impressive. So how much diesel did you end up using?

The nice part about 18 hours straight... is no diesel was used.
Thats awesome... I love putting a couple hundred miles on the truck and the fuel gauge doesn't move a hair.

Sweeeet! Welcome to the club!

Careful, its quite an intoxicating addiction. Believe it or not, most people still actually buy fuel for long road trips!!

Man, you came right by me. I woulda been happy to top you off, eliminating 1 or 2 of those barrels. Next time, give a shout out I'm sure I'm not the only one who would do the same! Speaking of which, I'm going to S.Fla next week myself....

It was alot of fun! I left Jersey with 1/4 tank of diesel and got to Fl with a 1/4 tank. I did some camping and trail riding while in Fl so I used a couple gallons on the trail since I was idling alot, I shut the system off. Other than that It was the usual purge and worm up on diesel. The hole trip was about 30$ in diesel I seem to have got 17-18 MPG on the trip. It also looked like I was pulling a invisible trailer because of all the oil in the back, 1000 pounds.

Skyskijason- thanks for the offer, I will let you know when I come back through again, have a safe trip down, enjoy the weather!

Awesome, look forward to seeing your rig! Right after my conversion a couple friends and I went to FL and left w/ 1/4 tank of diesel. Every couple hours all the way down and all the way back someone would say "Hey, we are almost out of diesel, think we oughta stop?". Trust me, it NEVER gets old!

              NIce....

That wasnt heavy in the bavck of the X?

Im cleaning oil now to go to TX and back. (about 2600 miles)

Ive got my 80 gallon tank, 2 plastic 55gal drums, and 4 5gal cubbies that Im gonna bring.

I also filled up with #2 for 2.19 at walmart.

I dont know if Ill make it 100% on veg....but I dont think Ill have to buy any #2 on the trip.

Did you have a little pump and just pump it out the back door into the fuel tank?

Dumb question...but where is your fill tube for your veg tank even located?

It is over 1500lbs of fuel... so it was probably noticable. I would almost recommend one of the hitch dealies that you can store stuff on, but that would put the weight even further behind the axle, which wouldn't be any better.

Ya its a little heavy, I also would never want to have a accident with them back there. I could see the drums flying at my head. They are all strapped to the cargo hooks and the mounts for the 3rd row seat with 2" wide ratchet straps, but? Ya Not the safest. I would love to find a 150 or 200 gallon tote that would fit in the back, might be more stable.

In regards to my tank fill, it is the DFA fill for the X that resides in the flush part of the 2nt door on the driver side. Install instructions are on the site under product manuals for some pics. Mine is identical except I did the same as Wilson and relocated the fill from the side by the frame rail to the back of the tank. I did this so I would not drill the frame. I have a TIG machine so it was a simple change. I also used tiger flex 2" hose to complete the change. Works great!

While on the trip I would transfer from the drum with this pump http://www.tuthill.com/us/en/product...Gear-Pumps.cfm I have a plastic 2" bung with a hole drilled in it to let the hose go in the drum without leaking going down the road. I just move to the next tank when one is empty. The pump is in a little rubber-maid tote thing with the extra hose wound up. When I need a fill I pull the other end out of the tote and open the back door and stick the hose in the fill. I would do this at rest areas and use the bathroom during the pumping, It would take like 10 min and I would be back on the road.

Also my buddy that rode from Fl to Atlanta with me now thinks im nuts, he just laughed at me when I refilled. :chuckles:

I bought a little 4ft x 6ft trailer w/3ft high sides just to put a 275 gal tote on for carrying extra go juice for the Ex. With wife and 2 boys, there is no 'spare' cargo room inside. I used my 4 cycle Honda 1" water pump to make transfers. When we stopped at rest areas, the boys would ride their bikes and play exhausting all that restless energy while I refilled the truck.

It is soooooo nice NEVER having to stop at the truck stops for fuel!:chuckles:

What kind of trailer is it. I did some looking and to carry the weight of a full tote which is almost 2000 pounds they get a little more expensive. The cheap harbor freight ones would split in half. I could always build one too.
