  • Help With V3 Start After Drain & Purge

    Okay.
I had some injector trouble in nov. and did not run the V3 on the ex for over a month. I drained the vo tank and purged the lines from tank to v3 manifold and back flushed from engine to the V3 manifold. A new filter and a fresh tank of VO and I thought I was ready to roll.

I ran the engine up to temp with the V3 in auto mode and nothing... 20 miles and nothing.

Now I figure I'll try to purge even though the V3 doesent need to. With engine off I press the diesel purge for 10 sec. I then turn the V3 to manual on, I can hear the pump working I give it about a minute, then start the engine.

V3 still will not come on in auto. I would love to hear everyones ideas on this so let it fly. Oh yeah, If I forgot to do something obvious...... feel free to give me a hard time.

    Any help appreciated.

    billman,
Have you tried taking a pressure reading at the V3? - Patrick

No. So where do I get a pressure tester on the cheap?? Am I specifically looking for a fuel pressure tester, or a compression tester.... what works well at a reasonable cost?? Anyone chime in here thanks. part #'s or specific sites to go to are helpful.

A tire pressure guage will read it, it will get a little VO on the ground when you do it but you can get a reading.

If you use a tire gauge wrap a rag around the port and gauge to keep you from being sprayed with oil- been there done that.

After installing a fuel pressure gauge I've seen that it is one of the best accessories that you can have to compliment the V3, takes a lot of guessing out of whats going on with the system.

what is the next resonably priced pressure tester that you can fix to the schrader valve, and where can you get it?

I bought mine from Harbor Freight... I installed it, and was not satisfied at all. It does look nice though.

I also took a hot oil shower while checking my pressure with a tire gauge... lol.

Billman, by tester, do you mean a simple gauge to check it periodically, or do you want a more permanent gauge setup?

Good pressure guages (that mount permanently in the cab) typically run around $150-200. I found some nicer fuel pressure testers at Autozone in the $60-80 range I believe.

Honestly, a simple $6 tire pressure gauge (0-100 psi) will do the trick just fine.

                  Good luck!
