  • Another V3 in the family

Found a oppty we couldn't pass up on a DFA rebuilt V3 and talked my bro into taking the plunge... He does about 25k mi /year so he's a good candidate.

He is going to TIG up a tank for the spare tire location (like stock X tank) for WVO.

We think we can get ~40gal under there with some work.

    It's a 02 F250 w/ 114k mi btw...

Would it be cheaper just to buy a X tank from a salvage yard? If the shoe fits, wear it. I used to drive truck thru NJ a while back,I think it was Elizabethtown that there was a big salvage yard with alot of Fords (mostly exploders at that time) the name isn't coming to me right now...maybe ALLIED salvage? well just a thought, and a good way to recycle......greasy

Sure thing. I will talk w/ my bro and take lots of pics...

One thing we want to do right is the fill neck location.

But the tank will be done in about a month +/- a week I'm sure.

Greasy- I searched high and low for an EX tank. No one had it and my brother is a great welder so he said screw it I'm making it the way I want.

PS- brand new at 10% over dealer cost the Ex tank is like 600-1500 depending on the year. I had no idea how they could be that different across all the years...

Good score! If I were building a custom tank, for max efficiency, I would design the heat and baffling in such a way that the heat is focused just around the fuel pick-up as opposed to 'heating the whole tank'...

Any thoughts to putting a drain in the tank? Where are you thinking of placing the filler neck? Using stainless or aluminum for the heat exchanger/fuel pick-up? - Patrick

Just out of curiosity, would the stock Ex tank be steel? If so, I'd give that some thought before I used that for a vegi tank.

no sir Ford calls it POLY,I call it plastic.44 gals total. If any one is good at plastic welding I have seen a 60 gallon "juice" barrel cut down to 37 gallons, and it fits where you want to put it,encapsulated with hi-density foam, with a custom diamond plate skid plate. It was at a "greasestock" type event on a 99 powerstroke f-350.It was towing a full blown mobile filtering rig capable of 200 gallons per hour filtering(nice 22 ft enclosed trailer, real stealth).Sorry I am rambling,if you can think it ,it can be done........greasy

                    Sure it's possible.

filler neck would ideally go right next to diesel fill. I put mine there and it's perfect.

pickup will be targon tubing and heat exchg is alum.

That's interesting....I would have guessed it was steel.

There was a guy on FTE that converted his EX to Cummins powered, there was a good shot of the tank in that build-up.

What are you guys doing with filler-necks so you know when to stop filling?
