  • The new collection pump!

OK - I ordered the 'big' version, but got the little one. I kinda need some oil so I guess I'm keeping it (still want the big one for home - I'll use the 'lil one on-the-road).

Anyway, I put 10ft of 3/4" ID braided vinyl hose w/a peice of 3/4" PVC on business end and also stuck a 'foot valve' on end of PVC to prevent oil dripping out of hose after use - also keeps pump 'primed'. Priming not an issue, btw - it is a diaphragm pump, therefore capable of significant vacuum w/o any liquid present. For now, I have a peice of cheap garden hose on discharge. At 5/8", that is prolly slowing the volume down a little, but still very acceptable.

So what'd it do???!!! I pumped VO in and out of tank on truck using a cubie. I estimate about 2.5 plus gals/min - oil was prolly 70*F plus. It was also stealthy-quiet!! Ya hear the cars 100yards away on the other side of the building drowning out the gulp, gulp, gulp of the pump. Oh, I only had a 10amp fuse in-line too! I'd buy this before the fill-rite anyday - but I'd love to pit the two in a race (I'd ditch the foot-valve and run 3/4" discharge line for a bit more volume from the Gulper to make it a fair race!) First warm oil - then cold, sludgy stuff...

    here's a couple pics:

    here's a video:

I'll get some better video when I get a switch in-line and have a helper so I don't make a mess - I was pretty nervous that hose was gonna jump out and show me how much oil each gulp delivers to the ground!!! I pumped it back into tank too, but I learned I'm not good at shooting video w/phone yet (hit pause instead of play)

I want to reiterate this pump is likely capable of moving more oil/minute than the way I have it set up. I'm gonna go ahead and put a 3/4" ID hose on discharge-side and re-test later today (w/o the foot valve as well) if I get a chance.

BTW, I like using the garden hose 'cause its CHEAP (50ft for under $10). When it gets dirty or stiff (6 mths or so) I throw it away and cut off another peice. It also makes it easy to move oil looong distances - I've used HF clear water pump to move VO 150ft thru garden hose so I didn't have to carry it 5 gals at a time...

Awesome info Jason, I really appreciate it. I was curious how well the DFA unit would work and it sounds great. I've been considering using a pump for collection here lately even though I have my barrels setup to drain into cubes. But, there's no reason I couldn't use the same setup and just allow it to drain into the pump (and then into the cubes) rather than right into the cube. Probably would make collection a lot faster and with the colder weather coming on, that wouldn't make me mad.

Sounds like this would be great for transfering good oil from a storage container to the V3 tank while on the road as well.

We have (4) gauge A-pillar pods in both our PSD's (made by Pro-Pods) and DiPricol Optix gauges. Excursion has VO switches and indicator lites on it.

this combo about $650 delivered from dieselmanor: (ya gotta call, not listed this way on-line - Tell David SkySkiJason package)

hehehe, just proves everything ya read on the internet ain't true! (even if its allegedly from a college/university!) I'll call that uninformed bad advice, btw. The only 'studies' I've seen about burning WMO concluded it would ruin the engine, rapidly at blends above just a few %. You burning WMO?

Oh those! (ya DID say 'under the dash' -duh?) That is an F650 dash peice, an easy add-on to late-model PSD's. I posted the ford part # in that thread... I plan to add one to our Excursion to put the fuel level gauge and HPO press gauge in, as well as switches for fog lites, running lites, back-up lites, etc.

Those pics are from FTE posts on the subject, there are a few others on there too. There are lots of things you can put in that space on right of gauges - even more gauges!
