  • Ford mileage computer?

    Guys

I'm unclear on the source that the average mileage calulator uses in my 02 7.3. It appears to be calcualting something while Im running on VO.

Can anyone tell me how accurate my mileage computer is, on VO?

    Thanks,

By my understanding it uses known fuel pressure and injector pulse time with engine load to produce avg. MPG, so that should be as accurate as petrol readings. The miles to empty is a fun thing to watch, I've seen mine go to 0 and stay there for hundreds of miles, it reads avg. MPG and fuel level in your petrol tank.

This is my assumption as well. I wondered the same thing for a while about whether or not the MPG was accurate on the dash readout. Outside of having a flow meter on either system, I can only figure they determine it by injector pulse width.

My MPG calculator has not been right since I bought the truck.

It always says 13.6..... no matter what. (which I know is incorrect)

My "miles to empty" has been useless since day 1, also.

my readout seems like it is higher on WVO, but everyone says they get a little worse mileage on it. Not that it matters, since it's free.

Also, my old Superchips programmer screwed with it BAD. I really only got about 60% of the mileage that it told me I was getting. I have a DPtuner now and it seems more accurate (still a little optimistic).

I can only assume my MPG indicator is fairly accurate. I consistently get lower mileage on WVO than I do on diesel. Oversize tires don't help much either.

I rarely pay any attention to the miles to E indicator.
