  • motor oil changes and blackstone reports

Any one getting blackstone reprts before and after wvo kits.

Been reading alot on the tdiforum and there are many all freaked out about piston blowby containing wvo mixing with the crankcase oil and polymerizing stuff up. Also another issue I did not think about was the ccv sending this "contaminated" oil into the turbo. Some people running wvo with this concern have started to run vegetable based crankcase oils bow available from ue. I guess it mitigates the issue of wvo in the crankcase. That's what it is made and used for in eu.

Does/can blackstone check for wvo in oil? Makes me want to change my oil sooner than I have been. I used to do blackstone prior to the wvo conversion, I wish I'd kept doing it now. Blackstone showed me it was good up to 8k miles. I think I'm going to start doing it every 3-5K now to be safe. And install a catch in the ccv pluming.

I've read about similar concerns. My thought was that there are a couple gallons of motor oil in the truck. Blowby would be a couple ounces at best. How bad can it effect everything in the 5000 miles I go between oil changes?

i ran one. here you go, about 2500-3k mi on oil

      EDIT:
crap cant figure out how to remove personal info from pdf...

anyway they said there is 1.5% fuel in the oil. standard is <2.0% so they say it's perfectly normal for 6.0

Wilson, is there an attachment with the post? I'm at work and can't see it apparently.

So, was it good or bad results?

          lol.

Take a print screen and cut out that stuff in paint.
Your post was enough info for me though.

1.5% fuel in the oil. BUT is that fuel WVO or #2? Would 1.5% of WVO react differently than #2? If so, would 1.5% WVO be above the acceptable standard for WVO?

Yeah Wilson, the post cleared it up for me as well. Sounds pretty good.

Also, in Adobe, you can use the picture select tool to "snapshot" just the info you want. It's the tool that looks like a little camera. Just select it, click at one corner of the info you want, drag the box around it and then release the button and it'll copy it to the clipboard I believe.

Dana Linscott outlines a procedure for checking veg in engine oil which calls for collecting a sample and putting it in the fridge. Probably not as scientific or accurate as getting it tested, but may be useful between lab tests or as an ongoing way to monitor veg contamination - Patrick

I did snap out the personal data and it was too large for attachment.

I will upload it to web and post..

Patrick have you ever heard what the result is of putting that mixture in the fridge?

I would assume the vegi oil would set up faster, with a much higher viscosity that the regular motor oil - since motor oil can commonly can see well below freezing in the winter and not have any major issues.

I purposely did NOT say I was burning wvo.

I will on my next sample.

I believe I started a thread about this 3 months ago and everyone said it was horse hockey,I change mine at 3500 miles max. This insures 1)no poly,2) no loss of MPG,and 3)Great piece of mind that I'm not ruining a engine that costs several thousand $$$$ to rebuild(that one is most important to me).I drove truck for several years and the most important thing I learned was take care of your engine =,cuz chrome don't get ya home...good luck..greasy

I have had 2 reports since I started WVO on the 7.3. First oil change at 2500 miles, the second one at 3500, and im doing another when I get back for NC this weekend which will be about 4000 miles on the oil. The first two reports came back great, no problems. The truck currently has 130,000 on the clock.

From Blackstone on my first report,"Since WVO is not as volatile as diesel fuel, we can't use the flash point to identify its presence. So what we are looking for now is a difference in viscosity or dilution in the additives and both of these were normal, so we doubt and significant WVO was present"

                            Marv,
Dana mentioned that motor oil left in the fridge overnight will be thick but it should still flow. If it has a jello-like appearance, it indicates ploy in your motor oil. If the jello-like appearance is still present after warming to room temp, even worse. - Patrick

Think I'm going to follow suit.

What oil do you use? Been thinking about changing brands. I've been rotella guy for last 60k. Synthetic in winter only. Blackstone could not tell me synthetic was any better as per the perameters they check for. Just nice to start up with when -20F out.
