  • Another VO roadtrip!

Wow! Struck out finding VO in small town Montana for last 1.5 weeks. Crazy, eh? I have never had trouble collecting/dewatering/filtering VO at 'camp' when I'm working out of town. Especially a little town. Renderer here has apparently educated/threatened owners not to give 'us' oil. I even had some lined up for 'oil change day' to intercept it before dumpster - but got shot down before it happened!

Anyway, I'm heading from N. of Missoula to Butte on I-90, then down to Salt Lake City on I-15 and over to just below Aspen via I-90. Then over to Lincoln, NE for a couple weeks.

I'm driving our '01 F350 w/70k mile conversion, draggin' my 5th wheel and heading to next project. I always enjoy meeting other greasers, its been fun hooking up with like minded folks all over the country. I love seeing how many different ways there are to filter/dewater and I've met quite a few folks that have never seen another conversion in person, much less get a blessing or suggestions on what they've accomplished/created.

Anyway, if you're along my path and have some oil to share/sell or just wanna say Hi, shoot me a PM and we'll put something together! Beers/dinners on me!

Right on Marv! I've been lucky enough to get thru there a number of times. LOVE fall in the Rockies! Early up high and late down low. It just kinda keeps going and going.

I often dive off the interstate and roll thru those little western towns when I have the time. I seldom miss the chance to stop and enjoy a beautiful sunset or sunrise...

I envy you man...haha. The wife and I have talked about wanting to take a road trip out there some day. Just get on the road and drive...see where it takes us.

I actually made it out to the SLC area this past April. My first time in that area - had been farther west, but never stopped there. Didn't get outside the city much, but the plane ride there was gorgeous...the Rockies are really something. Everywhere you turn the scenery is great.

Same thing with northern Arizona. Last December the wife and I spent a week in Vegas (work sent me for a conference - free vacation!!!! Woot!) and took one day and drove over to the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. Both places are almost just too much to comprehend while you're standing there.

If I get a chance, I'll post up some pics this evening...

Another great place in my book....Oregon and Washington. Once again, work sent me out there...really, really nice up there!

        Thanks!

Heck, thats my house in N.GA - we still water ski in shorts 'till November. Come on down! I got yer return-trip fuel. Ya gotta pick your days by Dec, though. There's nuthin' like an unlimited hot water shower on the boat to extend the season!! We head on down to S. Fla for Dec-April. I have friends down there who literally do not own a jacket!

Here's my rig ready to roll! I'm hittin' the road here in a bit!

I have room for about 20 cubies in the basement and the rack on rear can haul 1500lbs plus (thanks to custom 3rd axle!). I have the 100gal tank/toolbox off truck on the rack now. I kinda like it there! Working on on-board dewatering/filtering set-up...

Here's the new 200gal VO tank:

Just ran out of grease. Oh well, its only 600 miles to next friend w/VO. Besides, it will be first time in 70,068 miles I could check my mpg. That was last time I burned a tank of dino w/o burning any VO!!:chuckles:

I'll stay somewhere just into Utah tonite off I-15. SLC, then I-70 thru Grand Junction to Glenwood Springs and 'up valley' to friends in Basalt. It been gorgeous so far, great time of year to travel!

They THINK they are gettin' that mileage money back in fuel - but not from ME!:chuckles:

Jason what do you know of the chemical warfare threat on US fuel supplies.I was at a Bio-d commitee 2 weeks ago, although it was hush hush it was spoken as a key reason our state has gone through the motions to stock 500,000 gallons of B100 to splash blend for our National Gaurd as well as state trucks.By no means was that the cheap way out(#2=$3.39,RUG $2.59 at the rack). So what gives, has this been discussed on your end of the biz.I have read quotes from Waaaay up the legislative ladder about the threat of chemical warfare finding its way into our fuels, both here and abroard. On a related note the CDC reports a 500% jump in Brocial Infections, and general sinus infections,as well as certain forms of the flu. This is during the SUMMER when it should be less of a threat.I also noticed none of my Greaser buddys have got sick, what are we not being told? This something I am leary speaking of speaking about onthe web,but i need to know.............greasy

Greasy, to be honest it sounds like a desperate 'fear mongering' attempt by the 'bio lobbyists' to get government to force the use of 'biofuels'. I think it is stupid to make fuel out of feedstock that costs WAAAY more than diesel. Last time I asked, wholesale VO (ie, by the train car tanker) was $7-8/gallon. Who thinks its a good idea to pay $10-12/gallon for fuel? Nobody, thats why gov't subsidy has 'carried' the entire industry. Some folks have made MILLIONS off of the 'splash and dash' scam. Get the gov't $$ for 'making biodiesel' by adding a little to dino fuel and then sell it in more profitable overseas markets.

As far as the sick people go, I think there is an overwhelming epidemic of poorly fed (fast food) folks combined with lack of excercise. Hopeful OUR friends eat better and get more exercise than 'avg Americans'... One common thread I've found among 'greasers' I've met all over the country is a willingness to 'go the extra mile', usually to save money. The point is, we tend to spend less time on the couch eatin' bon bons watching court TV, and more time DOING SOMETHING. Whaddya think?

Got snowed on HARD coming back from visiting a friend on the other side of Independence Pass!! Wow! Pictures tomorow...

Heading for Linclon, NE here in a few minutes!!!!

Not to digress, but I think you're definitely on to something there. I'm not super fit, but I like to think I'm better off the average American now a days.

I think personal hygiene plays a part too. I constantly wash my hands now...to the point that in the winter they get dry and crack.

Once you start paying attention, you'd be amazed at how many folks don't wash there hands in restrooms. Ugh...

                            Anyways...back on topic!
