  • Ummm...your truck is running?

Anybody get this a lot? So far I've been stopped in the parking lot at school, work, and Lowes by folks who must think I either own stock in an oil company or am a little absent minded. The best is the look on their face when I matter-of-factly tell them "It's ok-it shuts off by itself." Once it did just as I uttered the words "by itself." That lady looked at me like I had three heads!
    Currently dieselless!

    Sounds very familiar-
I stop at a customers house, get out, start to get stuff out of the truck bed, if the customer is out, they come over and start talking, and the truck stops. They almost always ask- "Did your truck just turn off?" To which I reply "Yes it's a smart truck".
I enjoy not telling them what it is actually doing.

This happen all the time. It depends on how much I feel like talking. If I am not rushed and the person seems genuinely concerned, I will take the time to explain. If they are that typical know-it-all, tree-huggin, damn anyone who doesn't drive a prius type with some sly comment like, "Doesn't that thing waste enough gas without you letting it run?" I will usually just reply its cooling down the turbo before it shuts off.

            POWERSTROKE7.3L,

This happens to me all the time in our parking garage at work. When the folks I get along with ask I tell the Vegistroke Story...to the others I say I just got my raise so I afford to let the truck run.

That's when you ask them what kind of mileage their Prius gets...and then tell them at your big, fuel wasting truck gets 100+ MPG.

                That should change their tune...haha.

You can always use the "Clay Henry" response..."Eh, it'll run out of fuel eventually..."

I remember one time he told me that when someone at work I believe, asked him if he knew his truck was still running....haha.

I never get that far. I ask their mileage, and they stick out their chests and smuggly reply, "50." I say very calmly and with complete disgust, "That sucks." They get the weirdest looks on their faces after that. They think you should just be in awe that their unoriginal, underpowered, ugly prius gets 50 mpg. I live in Charlottesville, VA, and we are overrun with these types of people. I get some kind of comment every time I go to the gas station, regardless of the fact that it is about once every 1200 miles. Ever watch Southpark? Episode 1002: Smug Alert. That is what I live with. Rant over.
