  • Donaldson Filter after 3500 miles

Here is a pic of the Donaldson filter after 3,500 miles of vegie. I don't think this will be typical of everyones filter (my oil is very clean) but I wanted to take a look at it. The metal you may see came from me cutting the housing off. I also drained the oil to see if it would pass a hot pan test...and it did. As you can see on the last 2 pics the only crud is around the interior metal base. I did the HPT because I had read that the donaldson will catch some of the water. I am gong to wait until the green light starts flashing on the next filter then take a look at it.

That looks pretty good to me. you could probably easily double the miles the way it looks I think I'll do that to mine when I change it.

I'm thinking about waiting until the little green light starts flickering before I change it.

I just changed mine with about 3,500 on it too. I've got a pressure gauge on my fuel line and my veg usually runs about 75. I saw it drop to 50-55 and decided to changed the filter. The light stayed green and never flickered. I'd be interested to know how far you go before your light starts to flicker.

Be sure to check the prefilter screen for debris befire waisting a perfectly good donaldson.
I can get 8000+ miles out of one with my filtering technique. I'm trying to see if i can increase that but i just found a place that sells the donaldsons for 11.00 so for that price, i think 8,000 miles is plenty good.
