  • New V3 install, now remote lock won't work

I hope this is an easy question, just had the V3 installed. Prior to the install of the V3 I have a remote starter from Audiovox on the truck. Before the V3 I could leave the truck running, pull the key, hit the key lock on the Key Chain Remote and run into the store. Now when I pull the key, and the truck is doing the automatic purge I walk away from the truck, however using the key remote to lock the door will not work until the truck turns off. Any suggestions on how I can use the key remote to lock the truck while the purge is going on?

    Thanks-Justin

NJ, I don't have much to add, but I know with my truck, I can lock the doors with the stock key pad, but cannot arm the alarm. I have to wait till the truck shuts down before I can arm it.

Are you using the stock keypad, or did the Audiovox come with a seperate keypad?

Did the V3 installation affect any of the wiring you had done with the remote start system?

Marv, good idea I will try the Ford Stock Keypad, I am only using the Audiovox keypad. The remote started is working since the install, what I have not tried is the timer of setting it and walking into the store with the keys while the truck keeps running I will give that also a try tonight.

when i turn the key off, none of my electrical systems work, radio goes off, windows won't operate, etc. but that only last maybe 20 seconds and then the radio comes back on and everything works. Not sure what causes that but i'm sure jason can tell us.

I have been meaning to ask this prior to my own install but did not want to start a thread on it.

I hope this does not derail the OP's topic but....

I too have a remote starter, but I want to be able to click the "keep running" key sequence on the remote, pull the key and NOT have the V3 start the purge/shutdown sequence. Instead, I want it to continue to run until the remote system's 10 minute runtime elapses and THEN have the V3 purge and shutdown. This will allow me to do my in and out errand without shutting down.

How does this desire affect which run wire i use, if at all?

Hope it works out for you...it was the only thing I could come up with...haha!

You might see if they can program your stock keypad to control the functions of the Audiovox keypad.

Years ago I worked in a stereo shop that sold and installed a lot of Viper alarms (DEI was the manufacturer). Many of these alarms systems had the remote start feature - got one still on my old car. Typically they came with their own remotes, but I do remember a few times that we would program factory keypads to run the Viper functions as well. If I recall correctly, I believe the cars we did this on were Ford products as well.

Might look into it...might solve your problems.

            Good luck!!

I think mine does the same thing. I always check to make sure my windows are all the way up and it seems that I can't check them right after the key is turned off. Give it a few seconds though and they work again.

Haven't noticed if the radio does it or not.

Mine does the same thing. My locks will not work on the initial purge cycle, but they will work on the second part of the auto shutdown cycle.

I have reproduced the same issue, when I turn the key off and walk away during the purge back to diesel I can not lock the doors, open the windoes etc until the purge finishes.

Is there something that can be changed to allow the purge to happen but also have the ability to lock the doors?

I had the wires on the 2000 GreasyX backwards on the pcm(white wire?) and I could lock doors, alarm, windows ,all that jazz.Unforunately it was not the way it was intended to be and was throwing codes(ck eng.).If your system is doing that, you installed correctly.I try to pack all my stuff for trips to the store(my sons toys, juice, snacks) while truck is shutting down, plus it lets that turbo cool($$$).I liked being able to lock doors etc.,but when something goes wrong with truck,U already showing codes from the get go. Sometimes you can't have your cake and eat it too..............grease out

I have the compustar 2 way remote start. I never paid it much attention before, but I tried today and I can lock and unlock during purge and run times. I'll try doing the "Keep running" thing tomorrow and see if the vegistroke stays on.

This may not be related to your problem at all, but mine did this when I first installed my v2 on my 2001 and I figured out that the spare yellow wire (mine has 2, one in cab and one under hood) that splices to the pcm had grounded against something metal in the cab during installation and this blew the pcm diode. It was hard to figure out, but easy to fix. The wierd thing was that everything worked fine except I couldn't lock the doors with remote while the truck was purging. They are in the fuse box under the hood and have the diode symbol on them. There are two, only one is the pcm diode, but I can't remember which.

I hit the remote start with the vegistroke still on and took out the key and got out of the truck. The truck and system stayed on. When you cut the truck off with the remote, or tap the brake, or the run time expires, the vegistroke goes into its shutdown mode as if you just turned the truck off. Something else I noticed that was kind of strange. When I lock or unlock the doors while the vegistroke is shutting down, the info will not read on my remote.
