My son bought a 2003 6.0 Lariat 4x4 short bed crewcab 6" lift with 20"rims 30's tires with a Super Lift suspension kit on it. today. We test drove is and everything seemed fine. Before the dealer let us have it, they had to run it through the service dept. Well long story short, they said the turbo was shot. It ran ok when hot but started hard and ran sluggish till it reached operating temps.
They also said that they detected some other engine problems. Shorter story, they canceled the sale. They said they couldn't sell us the truck with the problems it had. We wanted to cry as this truck was gorgeous. Black and Tan

If anyone has a 2000-2003 Crewcab, shortbed Lariat 4x4 with the 7.3 We are in the market again.
    This one we paid $14,300.00
We are in the New Orleans area.

Look at craigslist, fleabay, etc. Prices dropping like crazy lately.

You couldn't GIVE me an '03 6.0. No, you couldn't PAY me to own one. Chalk your experience down as good fortune - you coulda been stuck w/that POS.

Watch this series for some good reasons why. Actually, watch all this guys videos and you'll know more than the dealer next time you go in - trust me.

Most of the diesel techs tell me there were fewer issues with the 03 6 liter than with the 04 and 05s.
A bad turbo with the kind of miles that truck had on it isn't any sign of a lemon at all.
What were the other issues? Why didn't the dealer just fix these issues and carry out the deal?
I think your son will be plenty happy with a 6.0 especially when he finds out the power he can achieve for much less $$$ than the 7.3.

I have 99k miles on my 6.0 and no issues - other than those that were self inflicted.

I would ask the same question. Why is the dealer not fixing the issues and selling it. I would hold them to the deal if I were you.

The guys at Davis Auto Sales (Where I bought, lifted, and vegistroked my truck) has this '03 7.3 for sale.

I was partial to this '03 7.3 though, but it sold a few weeks ago.

I don't know why I like it so much

Sounds like the dealer realized maybe they sold it too cheap or something and just wanted out of that deal. Elvia, call em back and tell them to fix it and see what kind of deal they want for a repaired truck.

I completely agree... That price seems pretty cheap to me when you consider the lift and tires. A good set of tires will set you back $1200-$1500.

                  Elvia,
Get the VIN number for me and I'll pull an OASIS report from Ford...those reports that dealers don't want you to know about sometimes.
Its a good idea to look at this report before buying any PSD.

That's exactly what I did with mine before I even considered buying it.

Actually, the salesman pulled it for me while I was browsing the lot. Good way to spot any potential problems.

                      6oh

I used to haul tires for stealerships(new and used),talk around the Ford shop s when that engine came out is as follows:radio ground bad,can cause fire turbos prone to heat up(look around turbo for melted items )#1 thing that steered me away was head bolts,IE turbo get hot, them engine gets hot, electrics get hot, melt,or short in future leaving u stranded later.Back to head bolts ,when they get too hot they stretch,or break. The ford shops around here still have 6oh trucks out back (15-20)with boat anchors under the hoodsome for 2 years. If i looks too Pretty under the hood, get a mirror check head to block when running,if any smoke or seepage stay away. Some dishonest dealers have been replacing every thing except head bolts(to do it right u need to pull engine out, they are to lazy, too much$$$ to bill out)They then push them(literally) out the door to the lot ,sell them cheap, with no warranty.Tic,Tic time bomb Also look out for "storm " cars, flood, hurricane, tornado etc. These are things i dealt with looking for my V3 rig.Good luck and happy greasing..P.s.make sure they weren't fleet rigs(costruction, landscapes etc, they tend to get beat on,(mostly were Crew cabs)..........grease out

Well after talking to everyone up to the manager, we went to the dealership and sat with them and discussed the problem. They had done several diagnostics. They said the turbo was shot, something about bad gaskets, and hints about some other problems with the engine. evidently, the previous owner had a banks tuner on it and caused some problems... who knows.
I asked for the repairs and they flat out said that they would not do them. period. Well the salesman is my son's friend so he didn't want to cause him any problems. We voided the deal. he got his money back and voided all the papers. I feel that we could have forced them to do the repairs. They said they would take care of everything before they did the inspection. So, I asked them what they will do with the truck. they said it would go to the wholesaler and auction. here is the vin # 1FTNW21P53EC60851 I plan on tracking the vin # to see where it goes. I found and spoke to the original owner and he said that when you start the truck it always felt sluggish till it warmed up then it ran great. what ya think of that???
