Bill Heard Enterprises closes its doors

Bill Heard Enterprises, the country's top Chevrolet dealer group, is closing the doors at all of its 13 dealerships at the end of business today, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
The company notified the stores' general managers at 2 p.m. today, the source said, who spoke anonymously because he was not authorized to speak.
High fuel prices, cancelled floorplanning from GMAC Financial Services, a reliance on trucks and SUVs, a soft national economy and struggles in local markets had troubled the company, which on Sept. 12 closed its store in Scottsdale, Ariz.
In the end, the company could not raise operating capital and could not finance its floorplan, the source said. Company officials have discussed closing the company since Friday, the source said.
Bill Heard Enterprises, of Columbus, Ga., ranks No. 13 on the Automotive News list of the top 125 U.S. dealership groups, with 2007 group revenue of $2.13 billion.

I figured this post was about Bill Heard...actually hits pretty close to home for myself.

We have a dealership in Huntsville. Never bought a car from them, nor would I, but they'll be shutting down shop shortly.

Always heard a number of shady things from them. Both from customers and former employees.

Most folks affectionately call them "Bill Turd". Before that it was "Landshark" for Landmark.

And yes James, I agree...if things don't change, it could get really ugly.

Here is a sign things are messed up.Today i took part in a meeting involving 2 senators, the head of NH dot,and DMV,2 big oil lawyers and spokesman, and 3 of my Associates(1 bio-d plant owner,2 employee, and myself.these people are highly educated, and they were asking us locals how to run highway trucks on bio?,and how to obtain and transport,as well as storing in winter.there wasn't any talk of taxing,or the smell of our rigs. They were stumped until we mentioned on-site blending to save transporting 3 times to same place. They were grasping at straws trying to make there budget work, those f-ing greedy oil barons are really messing up our country.I made a point to express my unhappiness with the greed of big oil, right to face of there overpaid lawyers faces.Long story short,we cut big oil out of bio production in the state of NH.They supply Diesel and we the people(farmers and small bio-d makers) do the smart work, enough said, clay here's your soap box back....................grease out

Granted things are messed up but it is more the greedy guberments fault than any capitalist business man. I love NC for this fact.....

          SESSION LAW 2007-524

          SENATE BILL 1272

AN ACT to exempt biodiesel that is produced by an individual for personal use in a private passenger vehicle from the motor fuel excise tax.

          (9) Biodiesel that is produced by an individual for use in a private passenger vehicle registered in that individual's name pursuant to Chapter 20 of the General Statutes. For the purposes of this subdivision, the term 'private passenger vehicle' has the same meaning as in G.S. 20‑4.01."
          and then this

          § 105-449.60. Definitions.
The following definitions apply in this Article:
          (1) Biodiesel. – Any fuel or mixture of fuels derived in whole or in part
from agricultural products or animal fats or wastes from these products
          or fats.
NC State law defines biodiesel as ''any fuel or mixture of fuels derived in whole or in part from agricultural products or animal fats or wastes from these products or fats.''
          Exemptions from the excise tax.
