  • Another little suggestion or two for V4...

While I had the pump out last weekend, I could help but notice a couple things that might make life a little easier when thinking about V4.

A suggestion I might have is to make the pump bolts a little longer, so you can just back them out far enough to pull the top plate back and slide the pump down to remove/install it (leave the 4 bolts and top plate just hanging there). This way, you don't have to hold all 5 pieces and 4 bolts at the same time, trying to get it all back in place and start the bolts. Never mind the oil that is going everywhere...

However, I'm not sure if the passageway routing within the V3 would allow this - wouldn't want to extend the holes farther in the unit and hit a oil or water passage.

One other little thing would be stainless steel hardware for the pump bolts. Looks like my black oxide bolts are starting to develop a little rust on them. I actually had this happen with one of my other cars where I bought an aftermarket intake that had black oxide hardware. Needless to say, it didn't take long for my expensive intake to have rusted up hardware. Shortly thereafter, the company came out with a SS replacement and I changed them all out. Also, I'm sure the SS bolts would be stronger. Probably cost more too, but I'd be willing to pay extra.

Finally, I might consider a little more robust o-ring for the pump. That little booger is small and easily lost...LOL. Maybe something that is retained in the pump face a little better would possibly work a bit better.

Anyways, just my suggestion...nothing more. Overall, I'm really happy with the system.

    Thanks!

I assumed those bolts were 'hardened' or Grade 8. SS is generally more 'brittle' and in this application may not be an option. (thats partly why head bolts, wheel studs, etc aren't SS) After taking pump on/off while on truck I can say I felt the pain! As refined as the rest of the V3 is, I would not be the least bit surprised to see V4 have a better pump mounting design. That part of the V3's design always seemed like a compromise to me.

Just saw this post Jason...sounds like you endured some of the aggravation I did. I think a couple minor changes would definitely improve upon the current design. It works like a champ, but maintainence is a bit difficult.
